Welcome to 5LD!

Welcome to 5LD’s class page.
The children from 5LD have had an enthusiastic start to their year and are already working hard. The children show real passion for their learning and I am really looking forward to seeing our learning journey unfold this academic year.
In English, the children have been working on warning stories and developing their setting description skills. They have been using dictionaries and thesauruses (and colour thesauruses) to improve their writing.
In maths, the children have been working on developing their place value knowledge and are beginning to work on the four operations.
Below is some key information that you may find useful.
Please ensure you record any reading that takes place at home with a simple comment inside your child’s Reading Record. Children are encouraged to read at every opportunity in the classroom, whether that is fictional story books or encyclopedias to improve their knowledge of the world around them. Our reading corner is currently under construction so we are hoping to have it all up and running after half term.
Spellings are handed out on a Friday ready for a test the following Friday. Please make sure the children are practising their spellings every week. Children can practise their spellings in any way they like – we have sent home a list of suggested techniques (some are quite fun!) to help the children learn the weekly spellings.
These are also handed out every Friday. At the start of the year, all children in year 5 started on their 3 times tables. It is essential the children practise their times tables every week ready for their test on the following Friday. When the children have answered all 60 times tables questions correctly they can then move up to the next level. We currently have 1 child on their 6 times tables already!
If you have any questions, queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me in person, via the school office or using Class Dojo.
