Welcome to 6CP!
Welcome to Year 6! So far, the children have settled in to Year 6 very well and have risen to the challenges we have given them. Ms Bragg and I (Miss Phillips) are both enjoying teaching the children in 6CP and it's a pleasure to get to know them properly after spending some time with them last year as part of the Year 5 team. A big welcome to those children who have joined our class for Year 6, especially those children who have just started at Hamp Academy.
During the first half of the Autumn Term, we have been focusing on place value and the four operations in maths.
In English, we have been writing portal stories, focusing on characterisation and setting description.
Our topic for the Autumn Term is Black History and, as part of October's 'Black History Month', we have been engaging in a couple of debates: 'Should Nelson Mandela have been imprisoned?' and 'Should Rosa Parks have sat on the bus?'.
During the rest of the Autumn Term, we will be focusing on fractions in maths and we'll be writing wishing tales (focusing on style, description and suspense) and non-chronological reports in English.
I hope everybody had a wonderful Summer break, has a fantastic two-week half-term and is looking forward to Christmas celebrations at the end of the Autumn Term - we have lots of hard work to do between now and then in 6CP!
If you have any questions, queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me in person, via the school office or using Class Dojo.
