Year 6 African Mask Making
As part of our Africa Topic year 6 worked with a local artist “Darrell Wakelam”. We looked at a range of masks from Kifwebe, Democratic Republic of Congo. Darrell presented easy to follow steps which guided the children through the process of creating a mask design. The children used a cardboard template to create the basic shape of a mask. Each layer was built up creating a 3D sculpture. Finally to create a smooth finish the masks were Paper Mache using tissue paper with a glue/water solution.
