Theseus and the Minotaur
Bristol Old Vic Project - Minotaur and Thesus
The children (and staff) in year 5 and 6 were completely spellbound by the production of Theseus and the Minotaur by actors from the Bristol Old Vic. A WW2 gas mask was converted into a very lifelike mask, compete with bull horns, which the actor playing the Minotaur wore, “I couldn’t take my eyes off the Minotaur; it was terrifying!” The hall was transformed into Ancient Greece with live music used to create mood. The children loved the freedom to choose where to sit and what to look at- some of them even volunteered to be fed to the Minotaur!
There was comedy and tragedy cleverly interwoven through the story which left the children with a few answers and a lot of questions which the cast answered at the end of the performance.
The children are enthusiastically anticipating the workshops that will be led by the actors over the next few weeks.
“It was Minotaurastically good!”
