World Book Day
Hamp Academy celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 6th March this year as we have the past few years. Each Class chose a classic children’s book and enjoyed themed Maths and English lessons in the morning. In the afternoon, the pupils moved around a carousel of activities, again all based on the books. They experienced such things as drama on the river bank for “Wind in The Willows” and drawing a map and sending a coded messages for the Hobbits of the Shire.
World Book Day has been running for 17 years now and is celebrated in over 100 countries around the world. The aim of the day is to encourage and celebrate books and reading. The pupils have the opportunity to design a book mark for a national competition and each received a World Book Day Token to swap for a free book written specifically for the day by famous children’s authors.
