Welcome to 4KC
Class teacher: Mrs Carrington
Teaching assistant: Miss Lock
Below is some key information that you might find useful:
The children should bring their reading book home every day. They are encouraged to be independent and change their own books when they're finished. If they are not sure what to read we help them choose a book. The children have a reading journal which they can fill in at home. We encourage the children to read at least 4 times a week at home. The children who read 4 or more times a week at home and sign their journal get a bookworm award and a treat from the treat pot.
We are trying to complete the 100 book challenge - https://www.oakfarmjunior.co.uk/files/100-books.pdf and as a class we have collectively read 23 of the books on the list.
At the beginning of each half term the children are given a list of the spellings they will be learning each week. The children have one spelling lesson a week and are given time daily to practice them. In the front of their homework book are some suggestions of some different ways to learn your spellings. The children are encouraged to try different ways and find what works best for them. In class they love writing their spellings in shaving foam!
We also use the Pixl app Unlock to practice spelling and the children are expected to go on this at home for 20 minutes a week.
The children have their spelling test every Monday.
By the end of year 4 children are expected to know all their times tables up to 12x12. We focus on one times table each week that we learn and practice. Here are the some of the ways we learn them:
The children are expected to go on tt rock starts for 20 minutes a week for homework.
