We have taught the following skills:
Skimming and scanning
Finding the meaning of words in context
Inference (using evidence to make a judgment or to come to a conclusion)
As a school, we are asking for Year 6 children to read (or be read to) for an hour a day, this includes the time taken to quiz.
When you read, your brain absorbs good writing techniques. Reading also enhances your vocabulary and spelling. New words appear in their natural context and you can deduce meaning from the surrounding words, while visually imprinting their spelling for accurate recall.
