Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

Welcome to the Year 6 page. This is an important and exciting year, as children reach the end of primary school and begin to prepare for secondary school.

Our team—Mrs Bond (Year 5 and 6 Phase Lead), Mrs Meade, Miss Williams, and our Learning Support Assistants Ms Wood, Ms Lock, and Ms Fearn—work closely together to support every child. We aim to create a positive and engaging environment where all pupils can do their best.

In Year 6, we focus on building confidence, independence, and responsibility. Children will continue to develop their skills in reading, writing, and maths, while also taking part in a wide range of other subjects.

Pupils will take their SATs during the year. We prepare them carefully and make sure they feel supported and ready to do their best.

We look forward to working with you to make this a successful and enjoyable final year at primary school.

SATs Information

In Year 6, children take their SATs (Standard Assessment Tests). These tests check what pupils have learned in English and maths by the end of primary school.

The SATs will take place in the week beginning Monday 11th May 2026:

  • Monday 11th May – Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling
  • Tuesday 12th May – Reading
  • Wednesday 13th May – Maths

We prepare children for these tests throughout the year. We make sure they feel confident, calm, and ready to do their best.

We also support children’s wellbeing and remind them that the most important thing is to try their best.

If you have any questions, please contact one of the year 6 team.

Transition to Secondary School

Moving to secondary school is an important step for Year 6 children. We help pupils feel ready by building their confidence, independence, and organisation skills.

We follow the Somerset admissions process. Parents will need to apply for a secondary school place, and we will share key information and dates in the autumn term.

Most of our children move on to Robert Blake, Chilton Trinity, Haygrove, Bridgwater College Academy (BCA), or Brymore Academy.

In the summer term, children will visit their new school for transition days. This helps them meet staff, see the school, and feel more confident about the move.
