Teacher: Mr Miller

LSA: Ms Bragg

Welcome to our class page for the Autumn term 2023.

This term, our focus in literature will be on the fictional story ‘The Three Little Pigs’. Our main emphasis will be on creating suspense and we will use the narrative to compose a non-chronological report.

The Three Little Pigs is accessible via: https://t.ly/Ewri5

Following the mid-term break, our reading material will shift to ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’, and we will concentrate on drafting instructions.

In mathematics, our exploration will encompass place value, numbers, addition and subtraction, along with strategies for mastering times tables.

Our history lessons will delve into Prehistoric Britain, comparing and contrasting the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. Our lesson sequence incorporates a focus on homes/settlements, trade/travel, religions/beliefs, food/farming and tools.

In science, we will conduct experiments to understand how water circulates within plants and study the components of flowering plants.

In RE, we will explore the beliefs held within Hinduism, drawing upon features such as Brahman and Diwali.

During our reading sessions, we will learn techniques for answering retrieval questions which encourages memory recall and comprehension skills. This will support children in fostering their learning and understanding of various subjects.

Important information:

Homework:

Homework will be distributed every Friday. Each student will receive 10 spellings to memorise along with a ‘word of the week’ that will be discussed in class.

They will also get a variety of multiplication and division problems based on their current level in the times table olympics. We encourage daily practice of these tasks at home.

**Please note that there will be a times table test every Thursday and spelling test every Friday.

PE kits: There is no need for students to bring PE kits to school. On Wednesdays and Fridays, students can wear their PE kits to school with their school jumper worn over it. During colder weather, they are allowed to wear joggers. Please make sure students have suitable footwear on these days.

Reading books: We utilise accelerated reader books for our reading program. Students will take a star reader test at school which determines their book band level. After reading the book, they take a comprehension quiz in class on their book. If they score above 80%, they can progress to the next level. It’s crucial that students bring their reading books every day as they will read and take quizzes at school.

Any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on Class Dojo.

Many thanks,

Mr Miller
