4JY

Welcome to 4JY!

Teacher: Miss Yard

Learning Support Assistant: Mrs Elford and Mrs Bartley

English

During this first half of this term we have been working on character description. We have been looking at the story "The lighthouse keepers lunch" we really enjoyed innovating the story and creating our own stories.

In Geography we have been learning about Tectonic plates, earthquake and volcanoes. We are enjoying it so much that we have started researching about the current Volcanic activity in Iceland and are now planning to write our own reports about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius 79AD.

Maths

We quickly built on our prior learning and are now confident at adding and subtracting 4 digit numbers. We are working on solving 2 and 3 step word problems as well as using the short multiplication method to make our working out quicker.

We have all embraced the weekly times tables tests and table Olympics with many of us now on the podiums on display in the classroom.

Science

This term we have been learning all about electricity and have enjoyed making our own circuits.

Here is some information that you may find useful:

PE

Year 4 have their PE lessons on a Thursday and a Friday so please can the children come into school in their PE kit on those days and will remain in them for the rest of the day.

Reading

We read daily in school and the children are expected to read for 15 minutes each day at home as part of their homework. Please ensure that children bring their reading book and reading record into school daily.

4JY very often win the most words read in our weekly assemblies and this is partly down to all of the reading they are doing at home, well done, please keep it up!

Times tables

By the end of year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables up to 12x12. We practise times tables as often as we can in school. The children are expected to practise their times tables each week at home as part of their homework.

Here are some of the ways they could be practised at home:
