4JY

Welcome to 4JY!

Teacher: Miss Yard

Learning Support Assistant: Mrs Elford

English

During this half term we will be looking at The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. We will use the story for inspiration in our writing and will write news bulletins, menus, astronomers logs, diary entries and letters of advice. At the end of the unit we will pull together all of our learning and created our own stories.

Music

This half term in music we have all been given our own recorder and over the next few weeks we will be learning how to play them. We are very excited!

Maths

This half term we will be focusing on place value of 3 and 4 digit numbers.

We have all embraced the weekly times tables tests and table Olympics with many of us now on the podiums on display in the classroom.

Science

This term we have been learning all about sound, how it is made and how it travels to our ear drums. We have enjoyed making our own instruments and testing these out.

Here is some information that you may find useful:

PE

Year 4 have their PE lessons on a Wednesday and a Friday so please can the children come into school in their PE kit on those days and will remain in them for the rest of the day.

Reading

We read daily in school and the children are expected to read for 15 minutes each day at home as part of their homework. Please ensure that children bring their reading book and reading record into school daily.

Times tables

By the end of year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables up to 12x12. We practise times tables as often as we can in school. The children are expected to practise their times tables each week at home as part of their homework.

Here are some of the ways they could be practised at home:
