4JY

Welcome to 4JY!

Teacher: Miss Yard

Learning Support Assistant: Mrs Elford and Mrs Bartley

English

During this half term we have been looking at The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. We have used the story for inspiration in our writing and have written news bulletins, menus, astronomers logs, diary entries and letters of advice. At the end of the unit we pulled together all of our learning and created our own stories, which we then published and shared with year 3.

Next half term we will be learning about the story "Tar Beach."

Music

Last half term in Music with Mrs Boxall we had a great time at learning many ABBA classics. We soon got to grips with the words and began introducing instruments, up next we will be focusing on grime rap songs about anti bullying.

Maths

This half term we have been focusing on 2 and 3 shapes and coordinates. We have been really good at getting the hang of coordinates  and have enjoyed using our knowledge of coordinates to play whole class games of battleships.

We have all embraced the weekly times tables tests and table Olympics with many of us now on the podiums on display in the classroom.

Science

This term we have been learning all about electricity and have enjoyed making our own circuits. Next we will be moving onto states of matter and carrying out different investigations with solids, liquids and gases.

Here is some information that you may find useful:

PE

Year 4 have their PE lessons on a Thursday and a Friday so please can the children come into school in their PE kit on those days and will remain in them for the rest of the day.

Reading

We read daily in school and the children are expected to read for 15 minutes each day at home as part of their homework. Please ensure that children bring their reading book and reading record into school daily.

4JY very often win the most words read in our weekly assemblies and this is partly down to all of the reading they are doing at home, well done, please keep it up!

Times tables

By the end of year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables up to 12x12. We practise times tables as often as we can in school. The children are expected to practise their times tables each week at home as part of their homework.

Here are some of the ways they could be practised at home:
