Multiplication

Children can multiply using arrays or repeated addition. We also use the vocabulary 'lots of' and 'groups of'. 

Children can draw the arrays or use practical objects to make them. 

(1 lot of 3)

(2 lots of 3)

This array shows 2 x 3 or 2 lots of 3. It also shows 3 + 3 = 6. Children may also recognise the inverse as it also shows 6 divided by 2=3.
