Well-being and mental health
At Hamp Academy, we are committed to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff. We know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and at times, anyone may need additional emotional support. We take the view that positive mental health is everybody’s business and that we all have a role to play.
At our school we:
- help children to understand their emotions and feelings better
- help children feel comfortable sharing any concerns or worries
- help children socially to form and maintain relationships
- promote self esteem and ensure children know that they count
- encourage children to be confident and ‘dare to be different’
- help children to develop emotional resilience and to manage setbacks
We offer different levels of support:
Universal Support: To meet the needs of all our pupils through our overall ethos and our wider curriculum.
Examples of how we achieve this:
*Daily discussions and check-ins to discuss emotions
*Emotion coaching and co-regulation strategies
*Worry boxes
*Trauma informed responses to pupils
*Peer mentors
Additional support: For those who may have short term needs, in-school interventions or those who may have been made vulnerable by life experiences such as bereavement.
What we offer:
*ELSA – Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (Miss Newbury and Mr Donaldson) run 1:1 sessions to support pupils with their emotional development.
*Parent Drop in Sessions – Sue Summers (Parent and Family Support Advisor) has 9.00-10.00 on Wednesday available for parents who have concerns or are seeking support with their child. Please message or call the school office if you would like to book a slot.
*Growth Mindset Group – A group dedicated to emotions, resilience and self-esteem run by a Trust Speech and Language therapist.
